Karl is active in supporting and building awareness of indigenous issues. He is a mentor to former year 12 indigenous school children, works to educate politicians, lawyers and land councils on awareness of indigenous issues and how to improve access to funding for these communities.

Karl is an avid wine collector, enjoys cooking and is still playing competitive Rugby Union, having toured Aspen in 2017.
